Artist Statement

I begin with an idea or image, then I begin exploring movement that correlates with that idea or image. From there I create small movement phrases which will then mold, rearrange, and craft a starting point. I like to combine animated pedestrian gestures with big movements. Once I have my starting point I will stand back and allow the piece to construct its own heart beat and guide me to the final product.

I like to explore movement that is awkward, animated, strange, powerful, humorous, quirky and unpleasing. I like to play with extremes and the boundaries of the stage.

From the inside, I see my works with cavernous laughter and furrowed brows.  I hope to incite this response in the audience as well. I like to spark curiosity in the audience, and have them want to take a closer look. I want to provoke questions and have the audience members feel something whether it be pleasing or uncomfortable. I like to twist perspectives on stage and leave the audience reflecting and questioning their own point of view.
